Dynamics of Screening in Modified Gravity

چکیده

Gravitational theories differing from General Relativity may explain the accelerated expansion of Universe without a cosmological constant. However, to pass local gravitational tests, "screening mechanism" is needed suppress, on small scales, fifth force driving acceleration. We consider simplest these theories, i.e. scalar-tensor theory with first-order derivative self-interactions, and study isolated (static spherically symmetric) non-relativistic relativistic stars. produce screened solutions use them as initial data for non-linear numerical evolutions in spherical symmetry. find that are stable under large perturbations, long they do not cause collapse. When collapse triggered, characteristic speeds scalar evolution equation diverge, even before apparent black-hole or sound horizons form. This casts doubts whether dynamical stars be predicted effective field theories.

Mass Screening in Modified Gravity

Models of modified gravity introduce extra degrees of freedom, which for consistency with the data, should be suppressed at observable scales. In the models that share properties of massive gravity such a suppression is due to nonlinear interactions: An isolated massive astrophysical object creates a halo of a nonzero curvature around it, shielding its vicinity from the influence of the extra d...

Modified Newtonian Dynamics and Induced gravity

Modified Newtonian dynamics, a successful alternative to the cosmic dark matter model, proposes that gravitational field deviates from the Newtonian law when the field strength g is weaker than a critical value g0. We will show that the dynamics of MOND can be derived from an induced gravity model. New dynamics is shown to be compatible with the spatial deformation of scalar fields coupled to t...

Cosmological Dynamics from Modified f(R) Gravity in Einstein Frame

In this paper, we investigate and analyze the cosmological dynamics of the universe, with an effect of modified f(R) gravity emerging at cosmological scale. We choose the Einstein frame as a physical frame. We consider phase portraits of the universe at the late time from modified f(R) gravity model. This result gives our universe an acceleration phase expansion without introducing existence of...

Viscosity in Modified Gravity

A bulk viscosity is introduced in the formalism of modified gravity. It is shown that, based on a natural scaling law for the viscosity, a simple solution can be found for quantities such as the Hubble parameter and the energy density. These solutions may incorporate a viscosity-induced Big Rip singularity. By introducing a phase transition in the cosmic fluid, the future singularity can nevert...

Flat Space Modified Particle Dynamics Induced by Loop Quantum Gravity

Starting from an heuristic approach to the semiclassical limit in loop quantum gravity, the construction of effective Hamiltonians describing Planck length corrections to the propagation of photons and spin 1/2 fermions, leading to modified energy-momentum relations, is summarized. Assuming the existence of a privileged reference frame, we also review the determination of stringent bounds upon ...
